Our Instrumental Music Department is comprised of a group of outstanding, dedicated, and collaborative instructors that work together to create a rewarding and challenging musical experience for ALL students.

Band
The Buchanan Concert Band program serves over 120 woodwind, brass, and percussion students in grades 9-12. Students are placed in one of two (2) co-curricular ability-based concert bands at Buchanan: Symphonic Band (6th) and Wind Symphony (6th). All band students also participate in the Buchanan Marching Band and have the opportunity to join in Symphony Orchestra.
The Buchanan Marching Band program serves over 130 woodwind, brass, colorguard and percussion students in grades 9-12. This ensemble is the largest performing group at BHS. All students enrolled in either concert band, percussion, or color guard are required to be in marching band.
Orchestra
The Buchanan Orchestra program serves over 60 students in grades 9-12. Students are placed in one of two (2) co-curricular ability-based orchestras at Buchanan: String Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Wind Symphony.
Jazz Band
Jazz Band AB is an instrumental music ensemble. Students will study advanced jazz techniques, performance practices and style, and form as it relates to various idioms of selected jazz music. This ensemble will present a number of performances for the general public. Homework will include practice preparation.
