Band
The band program serves more than 160 brass, woodwind, percussion, and colorguard students in grades 9–12.
- Brass and Woodwinds participate in concert band, football games, and other spirit and community events, with the option to join the competitive marching band and Symphony Orchestra.
- Percussion students take percussion class, perform at football games and community events, and are required to participate in both competitive marching band and winter percussion. Most also perform in a concert band and may choose to join the Symphony Orchestra.
- Colorguard students take colorguard class, perform at football games and community events, and are required to participate in both competitive marching band and winter guard.
Orchestra
The Buchanan Orchestra program serves more than 70 students in grades 9–12. Based on ability, students are placed in one of two co-curricular orchestras: String Orchestra or Chamber Orchestra. They also have the opportunity to perform in the Symphony Orchestra.
Jazz Band
More than 40 students participate in one of two jazz bands at Buchanan, where they study advanced jazz techniques, performance practices, and the stylistic forms of various jazz idioms. The ensembles perform multiple times each year for the general public. In most cases, jazz band members also participate in the concert band program.
